Most of these Timelines, I started to assemble in 2000 to 2001. Since then, I have been adding to them, and also adding new names, as and when I have found a possible connection to my family tree, or have researched them for friends.

Page and Entry numbers in (Parenthesis) are not actually in the Parish Registers, but are given as a point of reference, calculated by counting the pages from the beginning of the register, and entries on each page. In many cases the Parish Clerk neglected to enter the numbers where he should have done.
|
Pages are often out of sequence, so I have used the microfiche which was supplied to me by the Somerset Archive & Record Service as standard, excluding any duplicated pages, but including any transcriptions where necessary.
|
As near as possible, I have kept the spellings of people's names, and places the same as was written in the registers. Remember, for many years, there was no standard way of spelling.
|
Where the Parish Clark has used one spelling for a persons name, yet that person has signed their name using another spelling, I have used the signature as standard.

Much of the early Hemington information come from transcripts made about 1658.

Similarly, this applies to the Shepton Mallet transcripts. The transcriber was not always faithful to the original. For example: I have come across the surname Goodenough, transcribed as Goodanow or Goodenow. These are simply variations of how the Parish Clark heard the name.

The Wells Cathedral data comes from a transcript made in the 1980s by L. S. Colchester. The entry numbers given here are only an estimate, as I have not seen the originals to verify them.
